HONOLULU  –  In a roller coaster game, the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team fell to CSUN, 84-73, Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center. With their third straight loss, the Rainbow Warriors (16-12, 7-7 BWC) fell into a three-way tie with CSUN and UC Davis for fourth in the Big West standings.
 
The one-two punch of Terrell Gomez and Lamine Diane proved too much as the Matadors (13-17, 7-7 BWC) spoiled UH's Senior Night with their third straight win. Gomez poured in 32 points, while Diane added 25.
 
Jack Purchase led five Rainbow Warriors in double-digits with 20 points, all of them coming in the first half. The senior went out at home with a bang, draining six three-pointers, one shy of his career high. Brocke Stepteau had 10 points, six rebounds and four assists in his final home appearance, while fellow senior Sheriff Drammeh had three points and three assists.
 
It was a game of runs with the Matadors having the final say. Purchase kept UH in the game in the first half going 6-of-8 behind the arc as the Matadors took a 39-34 lead into the locker room.
 
UH opened the second half on an 18-7 run and took a 52-46 lead on a Samauta Avea layup with 12:41 left. It was a 60-60 game with 7:30 left but Gomez converted on a three-point play to give the Matadors a 63-60 lead,  a lead they wouldn't relinquish. CSUN nailed five of its seven three-pointers in the second half, including a trio of them in the waning minutes to seal the win.
 
CSUN shot 51 percent for the game, while the 'Bows shot 47 percent. However, UH went just 11-of-20 from the free throw line and committed 14 turnovers. With eight three-pointers on the evening, UH put its total to 243 on the year, surpassing the  2001-02 team (241) for a new single-season record.  

Following the game, the three seniors were honored, as well as athletic trainer Jayson Goo, a veteran of nearly four decades who worked his final basketball home game. 
 
The Rainbow Warriors will conclude the regular-season with a pair of road games, beginning with a meeting versus UC Davis on Thursday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m. PT/5:00 p.m. HT.
