HONOLULU – Alex Baeza delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the University of Hawaiʻi baseball team to a dramatic 8-7 victory over Iowa on Sunday at Les Murakami Stadium. The win helps the Rainbow Warriors earn a split in the four-game set with Iowa.
 
For the 'Bows (3-5), Baeza's two out single in extras came after Scotty Scott singled and Adam Fogel walked. The redshirt sophomore's single to right scored Scott from second to complete the comeback.
 
UH forced extra innings after getting down to its last out in the bottom of the ninth. With two outs and trailing 7-6, Logan Pouelsen walked and pinch runner Daylen Calicdan took second, then third, then home on three wild pitches to even the score.
 
Iowa (4-3) led 7-1 heading to the bottom of the sixth when UH began its rally. Baeza's sixth inning solo home run was followed by four runs in the seventh. Fogel drove in one run on a double, and Ethan Lopez knocked in another with a sacrifice fly. Maaki Yamazaki completed the scoring in the frame with a single up the middle to plate two runners to cut the Iowa lead down to 7-6.
 
Earlier in the game, Hawai'i struck first in the bottom of the first inning for an early advantage. Lopez's RBI single to right scored Dallas Duarte, who walked then moved to second when Fogel followed with a walk.

Throughout the game, Iowa put up three runs in the fifth, two in the third and one in both the second and sixth innings. 
 
On the mound, preseason All-American Dylan Thomas put together a strong outing, going the final 5.0 innings, giving up just one run on two hits with nine strikeouts for the win.
 
Pouelsen started on the mound, pitching 3.0 innings yielding three runs on four hits. Kash Koltermann went one inning giving up three runs on four hits before Cade Halemanu pitched a scoreless fifth inning.
 
Next up, the Rainbow Warriors will host Longwood for a four-game series at Les Murakami Stadium. The two sides will play single games on March 1, 2, 3 and 5.
