Hanna Hellvig was named to VolleyballMag.com's Freshman All-America Team on Monday. Joining Hellvig was teammate
Amber Igiede who garnered honorable mention honors.
Hellvig started all 30 matches and played in 112 of UH's 114 total sets. Hellvig led Hawai'i on offense with 348 kills while averaging a team-high 3.11 kills per set. Overall she hit .236 for the season. Hellvig finished her rookie campaign ranked third on the team with 81 total blocks while also recording 193 digs, 15 service aces and 17 assists. Earlier this month, Hellvig was named the Big West Freshman of the Year, all-Big West First Team and Big West all-Freshmen Team. She also earned AVCA Pacific North all-Region honorable mention honors.
Igiede led Hawai'i with 128 total blocks and was second on the team with 213 kills with a .347 hitting percentage. Igiede played in 104 total sets in her rookie season and also posted 47 digs and four service aces as a middle blocker. Igiede along with Hellvig was named to the Big West's first team and all-freshman team as well as AVCA Pacific North all-Region honorable mention.
Hellvig was one of 14 players to earn Freshman All-America status from VolleyballMag.com. Igiede was one of 45 players to earn honorable mention honors. Cal State Fullerton's outside hitter Julia Crawford and Tallulah Froley from UC Santa Barbara were the only other players from the Big West Conference to be recognized as she earned Freshman All-American honorable mention honors.
