HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i softball team opened the Fall Preseason Classic with a 2-0 win over Chaminade on Friday night at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Sophomore pitcher Isabella "Izzy" Dino led a trio of UH pitchers who fired a combined one-hit shutout in the win.
Dino earned the win throwing 4.0 innings. She did not allow a run but gave up one hit with no walks and three strikeouts. Junior
Emily Klee threw the following 2.0 innings and did not give up any hits or runs, but issued a walk while facing seven batters. Rookie Jetta Nannen tossed the final inning and retired the three batters she faced.
Hawai'i scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Senior catcher
Callee Heen came to the plate with runners on first and second. Heen drilled a bases-clearing double to drive in both Brittneee Rossi and Nawai Kaupe for the early 2-0 lead.
The 2-0 lead would hold up the rest of the game as the UH pitching and defense styilfmied the Silverswords offense. Chaminade's Tylor Genera threw 4.0 innings and suffered the loss, allowing the two runs on four hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Madelyn Stockslager threw 2.0 innings, giving up two hits with a walk and a strikeout.
The Fall Preseason Classic tournament continues with two games on Saturday, Nov. 9. Chaminade will take on junior college team, Fullerton College at 10:00 a.m. Hawai'i will play Fullerton at 12:00 p.m.
