Los Angeles, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team suffered its first setback of the season, falling on the road at Loyola Marymount 65-51 on Wednesday night.
The Rainbow Wahine (1-1) suffered only its third loss all-time to LMU, and it's the first loss since 2008. The Lions (1-1) picked up their first win of the season after dropping the season-opener to UCLA on Nov. 9.
The 'Bows and Lions traded buckets throughout the evening as LMU jumped out to an early lead, but went into the half tied at 27-27. UH was able to capture its first lead of the contest in the third frame at 31-29 and proceeded to pace along with LMU till the fourth quarter, trailing 45-42.
UH scored the first basket of the fourth quarter to pull within one, but the host picked up momentum and left UH sitting in neutral with a 15-4 run. UH only hit two shots from the field in the final 10 minutes, including a seven-minute drought for the eventual final.
Senior guard
Courtney Middap led UH with 12 points, hitting 4-of-6 from the floor. Freshman forward
Kasey Neubert made her season debut, playing 19 minutes, totaling nine points and nine rebounds.
For the second consecutive game, UH had a hard time hitting shoots for a combined 17-of-54 from the floor for 31.5%. Unlike the first game of the season, the turnovers mounted up for UH, finishing with 18 miscues, resulting in 16 points off turnovers for LMU.
It'll be a quick turnaround for the 'Bows as they'll head to Malibu, Calif. for a matchup up with Pepperdine on Friday. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. HT (7 p.m. PT) and will be shown live on the WCC Network.
