HONOLULU – Former University of Hawai'i golfer Jared Sawada will make his third appearance in this week's Sony Open in Hawai'i after earning one of four Monday qualifier spots at the Hoakalei Country Club.
Sawada finished in a three-way tie for third with a 67 and parred the second playoff hole to earn the fourth and final spot. The Mililani, O'ahu native also competed in the Sony Open in 2014 and '17, the latter of which he made the cut with rounds of 68 and 66 and finished in a tie for 69
thplace.
Sawada earned his first Sony invitation in 2014 as a Governor's Cup amateur qualifier but missed the cut with a score of 10-over 140.
This year's tournament runs Thursday, Jan. 10 through Sunday, Jan. 13 at the Wai'alae Country Club.
Since completing his eligibility in 2012, Sawada turned professional and has competed throughout Asia. He also captured the 105
thMānoa Cup, the state's oldest amateur golf tournament.
