Honolulu— The University of Hawaii women's basketball team dropped its third consecutive game after an 81-59 loss to visiting No. 8 Stanford on the last day of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Rainbow Wahine (1-6) went winless throughout the three-day showdown with Stanford, American, and Florida Gulf Coast, all NCAA tournament participants from a year ago. On the flip side, the Cardinal (6-0) went undefeated from Friday to Sunday, claiming the showdown championship.
UH played close with the national powerhouse to start the game, but the Cardinal used a 9-0 run to end the first quarter at 15-8, then later built their lead in the second quarter with a 12-2 run. The two runs set the pace for the game as UH played effectively in the second half as the two squads tied in the third quarter of action, followed by the visitors only outscoring the 'Bows by four in the final frame.
Junior forward
Makenna Woodfolk led the team in scoring with 16 points while pulling down a team-high five rebounds. Junior guard
Courtney Middap added 11 points and dished out three assists.
UH will now have a nine-day hiatus till its next game against Idaho on Dec. 5. The matchup with the Vandals will be the 'Bows sixth straight contest at the Stan Sheriff Center, so far during the stretch, they've gone 1-4.
At the end of the contest, a Stanford player was injured with 48 seconds on the game clock. The referees and coaches agreed to end the game due to the severity of the injury.
