Wahine Soccer Unable To Convert In 2-0 Loss To Seattle U

WAIPAHU, Oah'u – The Hawai'i women's soccer team had its chances, but was unable to light up the scoreboard in a 2-0 loss to Seattle U at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium on Monday night.

The Rainbow Wahine tallied nine shots in the game, including threatening opportunities from Sonest Furtado and Raisa Strom-Okimoto that sailed over the crossbar.

The Redhawks, on the other hand, converted the game's first goal in the 57th minute when Natasha Howe picked up a loose ball inside the box and slammed it past UH goalkeeper Alexis Mata for the 1-0 lead.

Seattle U weathered Hawai'i's comeback attempt and scored the insurance goal in the 78th minute when Stephanie Spikerman found Jessie Ray off a free kick, leading to the goal.

Each team had nine shots and three shots on goal in the contest. Seattle U had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks, and Hawai'i was whistled for 18 fouls, compared to SU's 10.

Strom-Okimoto, Furtado, and Leialoha Medeiros were responsible for Hawai'i's shots on goal. Mata had one save in the game while Seattle U goalkeeper Mackenzie Curry had three saves in the shutout victory.

Seattle U leaves as Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Soccer Classic champions after going 2-0 in the tournament. Furtado, Strom-Okimoto, and Kellsie Gleason were selected to the all-tournament team.
