SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – University of Hawai'i sophomore
Cameron Kaneko tied for 15
th place at the Big West Conference Championship at even par 216 after Wednesday's third and final round at the Sandpiper Golf Club.
Kaneko shot a final round 73, which included five birdies for his best finish of the season and second-lowest 54-hole total. The Huntington Beach, Calif., native posted 15 birdies during the tournament, third-most among the field.
As a team, the Rainbow Warriors shot a final round 301 for an 894 total and ninth place. UC Santa Barbara held off CSUN by one stroke to take the team title with an 852 total. Cal Poly (855) finished third followed by Long Beach State (861), UC Davis (868), UC Irvine (870), Cal State Fullerton (871), UC Riverside (885), and UH.
CSUN's Felix Mory went wire-to-wire to capture the individual championship at 10-under 206, four strokes better than LBSU's Joe Fryer (210).
Senior
Pono Tokioka closed out his career with an even par 72 to tie for 33
rd place at 223. Freshman
Taiga Iwasa carded a final round 78 to finish in 40
th place at 230. One stroke back was
Smart Kittirattanapaiboon, who struggled with an 84 to tie for 41
st. Sophomore
Sam Schwartz finished in 45
th place at 237.
The tournament concluded the 2016-17 season for the Rainbow Warriors.
