SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team completed the 71st Western Intercollegiate in 15
th place following the completion of the second and third rounds Sunday at the Pasatiempo Golf Club.
The Rainbow Warriors totaled 1152 after completion of the second and third rounds. Top-ranked USC (1050) went wire-to-wire for the team title, winning by 18 strokes over runner-up No. 7 Stanford (1068). USC's Justin Suh also captured medalist honors at 5-under 205 following an even par 70 in the final round.
Sophomore
Cameron Kaneko was UH's top finisher, firing a final round 77 to finish 224 and a tie for 60
th place. The Huntington Beach, Calif., native completed his second round with a 1-under 69, the low round of the tournament for the Rainbow Warriors.
Freshman
Taiga Iwasa shot a final round 75 to finish 229 and a tie for 79th. Sophomore
Sam Schwartz and senior
Pono Tokioka tied for 89th at 234 after final rounds of 81 and 78, respectively. Junior
Smart Kittirattanapaiboon tied for 93rd with an 85 and freshman
Desmond Mello carded a final round 79.
The tournament featured a remarkable five holes-in-one including two by Cal's William Aldred in his second and third rounds.
The Rainbow Warriors will next compete in the Big West Conference Championship, May 1-3 in Santa Barbara, Calif.
