LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team shot a final round 289 to finish in a tie for ninth place at South Dakota State's Jackrabbit Invitational Saturday at the Siena Golf Club.
The Rainbow Warriors finished the two-day tournament at 5-over 869 to tie with host SDSU. Nevada ran away with the title at 823, seven strokes ahead of 17
th-ranked UNLV (830), who shot the day's best round of 12-under 276.
UNLV's Justin Kim edged Round 2 leader Grant Booth of Nevada by one stroke to capture medalist honors at 13-under 203. Booth finished in a three-way tie for runner-up with teammate Kaleb Gorbahn and Cal State Fullerton's Jack Ireland.
UH's top finisher was sophomore
Cameron Kaneko who carded a 2-under 70 to finish 2-under 214 for the tournament and a tie for 18
th place. His final total and finish were career bests.
Junior
Smart Kittirattanapaiboon shot his second straight 71 to finish 3-over 219 and a tie for 35
th place. Freshman
Desmond Mello tied for 48
th at 224 after a final round 77 while sophomore
Sam Schwartz posted his second round under par for the tournament with a 1-under 71 to tie for 54
th at 226.
Senior
Pono Tokioka struggled with an 86 to finish tied for 61
st at 234.
The Rainbow Warriors will next compete in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational, March 18-19 in Tempe, Ariz.
