WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team finished in 17
th place following the third and final round of the 26
th Amer Ari Invitational Saturday at the Waikoloa Kings' Course.
The Rainbow Warriors shot a final round 298 for an 882 total. No. 18 Texas Tech captured the team title at 820, eight strokes ahead of defending champion USC (828). No. 20 Oregon finished third (838) followed by No. 33 Arizona State (841) and No. 28 Colorado (841).
UH senior
Pono Tokioka was the team's top finisher with his second straight round under par with a 2-under 70 on Saturday, that included three birdies and one bogey. The Lihu'e, Kaua'i native tied for 45
th place at 1-under 215.
TTU's Fredrik Nilehn won a three-way playoff to win medalist honors over Arizona State's Jared duToit and USC's Rico Hoey. The trio finished the tourney at 16-under 200.
UH sophomore
Cameron Kaneko entered the day at 2-under for the tournament but shot 76 to tie for 60
th at 2-over 218. Sophomore
Sam Schwartz tied for 100
th at 226 after a final round 78 while freshmen
Nick Nelson tied for 104
th (227) and
Trevor Hirata placed 117
th (236) after rounds of 74 and 78, respectively.
The Warriors will next host the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Feb. 15-17 at the Wailua Golf Course on Kaua'i.
