NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -- CSUN used a 20-5 third quarter run and dominated the glass to earn a 67-56 win over the Hawai'i women's basketball team on Saturday.
The Rainbow Wahine (8-13, 4-5 Big West) had no answer for CSUN's Channon Fluker, who finished with a 21-point, 14-rebound double-double and helped the Matadors enjoy a 55-34 rebounding advantage. CSUN (11-11, 4-4 Big West) collected 22 offensive rebounds, tied for the most of any UH opponent this season, which resulted in 16 second-chance points.
Hawai'i trailed by 10 in the second quarter before closing the half on an 8-0 run to cut CSUN's lead to 28-26 at the break. The Rainbow Wahine kept the momentum to start the third quarter, taking a 32-30 lead to cap a 14-2 run that began in the second quarter, but CSUN closed the third on a 20-5 run and led the rest of the way.
Sarah Toeaina led Hawai'i with 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting, and
Olivia Crawford came up point shy of her career-high, finishing with 12.
Lahni Salanoa and
Makenna Woodfolk each added eight points for the Rainbow Wahine.
UH shot 33 percent from the field and 35 percent from 3-point range while hitting 8-of-10 free throws in the game. CSUN shot the ball slightly better than Hawai'i, connecting on 37 percent from the field.
The Rainbow Wahine return home for four consecutive games in the Stan Sheriff Center, which includes a rematch against the Matadors on Feb. 18 and begins against UC Riverside on Feb. 8. Hawai'i also hosts UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 11) and UC Davis (Feb. 16) in that stretch.
