KA'ANAPALI, Maui – Two Hawai'i men's golf teams entered the Ka'anapali Classic Intercollegiate Invitational, which began with the first of three 18-hole rounds on Friday.
Freshman
Justin Arcano returned to his home island of Maui to lead the UH Green team with a 2-under 69 to finish the day tied for 35th.
Taiga Iwasa shot even-par 71 (t-54) for the Green team, which finished the first round in 15
th place with a 2-over par 286. Also competing for the Green team are
Cameron Kaneko (72, t-65),
Nick Nelson (74, t-86), and
Smart Kittirattanapaiboon (78, t-110).
California is leading the tournament through 18 holes with an 18-under 266. LSU and South Carolina are tied for second at -16. Wyoming's Drew McCullough is leading all individuals after shooting an 8-under 63. Three players, Cal's Colling Morikawa, LSU's Luis Gagne, and Boise State's Brian Humphreys, are tied for second place individually after shooting 64.
The UH Black team was led by
Trevor Hirata's 1-over 72 (t-65) and
Justin Ngan's 5-over 76 (t-106).
Bryden Salvador (77, 109
th),
Cole Yoshida (78, t-110) and
Shane Snow (81, 114) are also competing for the Black team, which finished Round 1 with a 19-over 303.
The 54-hole tournament continues with the second round set for an 8:30 AM (HT) start on Saturday, with the final round beginning at the same time on Sunday.
