COLLEGE STATION, Texas – School records continued to fall as the Hawai'i men's and women's swim and dive teams had another great day at the Art Adamson Invitational on Friday.
The UH men climbed the leaderboard with five top-five performances on Day 2, including two in relays, which are worth double the points. The Rainbow Warriors took third in the 200 medley relay as
Metin Aydin,
Olli Kokko,
Mateusz Chaba and
Reed Wynn teamed up to finish in 1:27.56. UH also finished third in the 800 freestyle relay, with Wynn,
David Springhetti, Chaba and
Jonas Gutzat finishing in 6:37.38.
Aydin sealed another third-place finish for UH in the 100 back with a time of 46.94, just shy of his own school record of 46.32. Chaba earned a fifth-place finish in the 100 fly (47.51), and
Johan Sandell finished fifth in 3-meter diving with a finals score of 339.80 after scoring 368.80 in the prelims.
The Hawai'i men enter the third and final day of the meet in sixth place in the 10-team field. UH has 180 points entering Saturday, just behind Arkansas (183) and LSU (184). Texas A&M is leading the meet with 867.50.
The UH women re-wrote the record books on Friday, breaking a pair of school records.
Franziska Weidner beat her own school record and became the first UH woman to break 1-minute in the 100 breast, with a time of 59.41 to finish third. Freshman
Kionna Clayton was just behind, notching the No. 2 time in program history at 1:00.85 to finish seventh.
The UH women also broke the school record in the 800 freestyle relay. Weidner,
Bryndis Hansen, Silvia Djelic and
Phoebe Hines finished third with a time of 7:12.97, nearly two seconds better than the previous school record set in 2015.
The Rainbow Wahine enter Saturday's action in fourth place in the seven-team field with 285 points. Leaders Texas A&M (976), Utah (607) and LSU (420.50) have separated themselves from the pack after two days of events.
The meet, hosted by Texas A&M, concludes Saturday.
