FAIRFAX, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team posted its best round of the two-day Alister MacKenzie Invitational with a 290 Tuesday at the Meadow Club.
The Rainbow Warriors completed the tournament with an 884 total and 16
th place finish despite playing two true freshman who were competing in their first-ever collegiate tournament. Host California easily captured the title at 811, 17 strokes ahead of runner-up Santa Clara (828).
UH freshman
Justin Arcano was the team's top finisher at 7-over 220 and a tie for 67
th following a final round 74. After a shaky start, the Wailuku, Maui native went 2-under over his final 11 holes. Fellow frosh and Baldwin High School teammate
Justin Ngan posted 76 on Tuesday for a 231 total and 78
th place.
Junior
Smart Kittirattanapaiboon carded the team's low round of the day at even par 71 to tie for 72
nd at 222 along with junior
Sam Schwartz, who shot 2-over 73. Kittirattanapaiboon had a rather consistent round with two birdies and two bogeys on the day.
Junior
Cameron Kaneko was one stroke back at 223 and a tie for 77
th with a final round 72 that included five birdies.
Cal's K.K. Limbhasut captured medalist honors, completing the tournament at 15-under 198. San Jose State's Kevin Velo and Cal's Sebastian Crampton tied for runner-up at 14-under.
UH will next host back-to-back tournaments on the neighbor islands. First up is the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational Oct. 29-31 on Kaua'i followed by the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational Nov. 3-5 on Maui.
