SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Despite a 20-9 advantage in shots, including 10-4 in shots on goal, the Hawai'i women's soccer team lost to Cal Poly 2-1 in the Big West Conference opener on Friday.

th minute after converting a penalty kick, but Hawai'i sophomore
Raisa Strom-Okimoto evened the score in the 33
rd minute with a free kick from about 30 yards that beat Mustang goalkeeper Sophia Brown to the far post.
Cal Poly took the lead once again when Stephanie Magellan slipped a pass to Kendra Bonsall who beat a charging
Monk Berger in the 69
th minute for the 2-1 advantage. Hawai'i threatened several times throughout the final 20 minutes, hitting the crossbar twice and firing a total of seven shots, including three on goal, but couldn't come up with the equalizer.
Strom-Okimoto finished with nine shots, including six on goal, and scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Freshman
Tia Furuta had four shots, including two on goal and one that ricocheted off the crossbar, after coming off the bench for the Rainbow Wahine.
The loss drops Hawai'i to 7-2-1 on the season and 0-1 in Big West play. Cal Poly improves to 6-5-1 and 1-0 in the Big West. The Rainbow Wahine will visit UC Santa Barbara at 11:00 a.m. (HT) on Sunday, Oct. 2 to wrap up the two-game road trip.
