HONOLULU – The University of Hawaii men's basketball team got out of the gates fast and never looked back in an 86-55 rout of UH Hilo Tuesday at the Stan Sheriff Center. UH improved to 3-2 overall and remained undefeated in nine all-time meetings against the Vulcans.
 
The 'Bows used the long ball to help fuel the win, draining 13 three-pointers, just one off the team record. UH eclipsed its season high in threes in the first half alone, going 9-of-18 in the first 20 minutes to build a comfortable 21-point lead at the break.
 
Noah Allen nailed six of UH's three-pointers and scored 16 of his career-high 24 points in the first half. He also added 10 rebounds for his second double-double this year. Three other 'Bows finished in double-digits, including sophomore point guard Brocke Stepteau who enjoyed a career game with 11 points and a game-high seven assists, while committing just one turnover. Sheriff Drammeh added 16 points and Gibson Johnson finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.
 
All 12 players who saw action for UH finished in the scoring column, while UH continued to share the ball during the young season by assisting on 24 of their 31 field goals.
 
UH raced out to an 11-2 lead early and it was 16-8 less than eight minutes in when UH started to get hot.  Four of the team's next five field goals came from long range as UH opened a 30-13 advantage. UH took a 45-24 lead into the locker room and didn't let up in the second half, expanding its lead to as many as 37 points late in the game.
 
UH also got the job done on the defensive end, limiting UH Hilo (1-3) to just 34.6 percent shooting and shutting down the team's top two scorers. Parker Farris and Darius Johnson-Wilson entered the game averaging a combined 48 points per game, but ended up with just nine points total against the 'Bows on 3-of-17 shooting.
 
UH scored 24 points off of 19 Vulcan turnovers and tallied a season-high nine steals. UH also out-rebounded UH Hilo 42-33, including a 21-11 advantage in the first half.  
 
The Rainbow Warriors return to the court on Friday, Nov. 25 when they host Troy out of the Sun Belt Conference. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center, following the Rainbow Wahine game at 5:30 p.m.
