Video HighlightsHONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i beach volleyball team experienced some of the world's top competition Friday night with
Heather Boyan and
Katie Spieler highlighting the evening with a 21-17, 23-21 sweep of Team Japan's Miki Ishii and Megumi Murakami at the Pac Rim Beach Volleyball Championships held at the Clarence T.C. Ching Courts.
Boyan and Spieler's win proved to be the lone one of the night for the 'Bows who were competing in their first competition of the year. The UH tandem nearly came up with another win earlier in the evening, falling in three sets to UCLA's sister pair of Megan and Nicole McNamara who were competing for Canada.
Also competing was USC's national champion duo of Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes for Team USA. UH's
Lara Schreiber and
Hannah Rooks, and
Ginger Long and
Mikayla Tucker, both fell in straight sets to last year's AVCA title winners.
The Championships continue Saturday with the pairs tournament held at Queen's Beach in Waikiki. Joining the four squads will be teams from Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific.
