HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i baseball letterwinner Wes Kimura was presented with the 2013 Kane Fernandez Community Service Award Saturday, March 15 prior to the Hawai'i-Nevada baseball game at Les Murakami Stadium.
Kimura is the 13
th recipient of the award, presented annually to a UH letterwinner who has volunteered his or her support unselfishly to further advance their community.
Kimura lettered for UH from 1979-82. He is the vice-president, director of automotive customer service at Servco Pacific. Currently, Kimura is an active member of the UH Grand Slam Club, a club devoted to the progress and improvement of UH baseball.
In addition, Kimura previously served as president of the UH Letterwinners Club from 2003 through 2005. His involvement with UH also includes his activities as a volunteer Board member of the UH Alumni Association, participation in the UH Athletics Advisory Board, and a member of 'Ahahui Koa Anuenue.
He served as a board member of 'Ahahui Koa Anuenue from 2005-07. His active involvement with UH was recognized in 2009 when Kimura received the Charles Ushijima Award for services in the betterment of activities for the University of Hawai'i.
Additionally, Kimura has participated in many community programs, including the steering community of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, Youth Baseball programs, and the Nu'uanu YMCA, for which he has served as a board member since 1992 and chairman from 2005-07.
The award is named for the late Kane Fernandez, chairman and chief executive officer of Fernandez Entertainment, who passed away in January, 2001. He was one of the original members of the UH Letterwinners Club.
