Round One ResultsPRINCEVILLE, Kaua`i—The University of Hawai'i men's golf team completed the first round of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational in 11th-place with a team score of 292 (+4). Playing as individuals,
Pono Tokioka,
Adrian Lee and
Skye Inakoshi all shot under par while the Hawai'i team was led by
Brian Lee's 1-under 71.
Tokioka, a sophomore from Lihue, Kaua'i, fired a career low 3-under 69 in his first tournament appearance of the season. Tokioka enjoyed his homecoming as he birdied three straight on holes No. 3, 4 & 5 before stumbling with a bogey on No. 6. But he bounced back on No. 8 with his fourth birdie of the round to stay at 2-under. He finished his round (which began on hole No. 18) with three birdies and two bogeys to finish with a final round of 69 which puts him in a four-way tie for 16th place.
No. 11 Georgia Tech leads the team standings at 16-under 272, one stroke ahead of Mississippi (273) and two strokes clear of San Diego (274). Pepperdine's Frederick Wedel shot 8-under 64 and holds a one stroke lead over San Diego's Grant Forrest (65).
Freshman
Adrian Lee made his collegiate debut, shooting a 1-under 71. Lee was steady all day, sinking three birdies with two bogeys on the round. Inakoshi also fired a 71. He bogeyed his first hole (17) but rebounded on the next hole with an eagle on No. 18 to go to 1-under. He birdied No. 2 to go to 2-under, but a triple bogey on No. 6 derailed his string of six holes under par. But Inakoshi regrouped and birdied the 14th and 15th holes to finish his round at 1-under.
Brian Lee is also tied at No. 28 along with Lee and Inakoshi at 1-under. He racked up five birdies, but had two bogeys and a double for 71.
Zachary Braunthal is tied for 44th after recording a 1-over 73 while
Justin Chu and
Ryan Kuroiwa are tied at 58 after posting a 2-over 74.
The Invitational continues on Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at the Princeville Makai course.
