Men’s Golf Concludes Grueling Lexus Classic

Senior Cory Oride shot a final round 76 to finish in a tie for 63rd place
Final Results

FRESNO, Calif.- The University of Hawai'i men's golf team finished the Fresno State Lexus Classic with the third and final round of play on Tuesday at Belmont Country Club.
 
The Warriors (368-365-386=1119) struggled in the final round of competition, battling their way to a 386, which put them at a three-round total of 1119, finishing the tournament in 16th place.
 
The top-ranked California Golden Bears (346-348-343=1037) ran away with the team title, stretching their lead to 37 strokes after shooting a third round 343 to bring their total to 1037.
 
Host Fresno State (361-355-358=1074) finished in second behind the Golden Bears after shooting a 358 for a three-round total to 1074. BYU (356-367-352=1075) and Northwestern (367-352-360=1079) finished in third and fourth place, respectively.
 
Individually, the top three spots after day two remained the same when the tournament was all said and done. California's Michael Kim (68-65-67=200), Brandon Hagy (68-69-69=206) and Michael Weaver (69-68-70=207) took first, second and third place, respectively. Kim continued his stellar play with a final round 67 to finish with at 200. Kim played three consecutive rounds under par.
 
Junior Nainoa Calip, the top scorer for the Warriors, shot a third round 77 to give him a 221 overall and a tie for 52nd place. Calip's final round featured one birdie and three bogeys.
 
Three strokes behind Calip was senior Cory Oride, who started off slow with three bogeys on the back nine but picked things up on the front nine shooting 1-over. Oride finished with a final round 76 to give him a 224 overall and a tie for 63rd.   
 
Junior David Saka and freshman Scotty Yamashita both finished in a tie for 68th with three round totals of 225. Saka started off strong on the back nine but would struggle on the front nine, with three bogeys on his final three holes to finish with a third round 78. Yamashita also struggled on the back nine shooting 3-over but turned it around on the front shooting a 1-under to give him a third round 75, the team's best score of the day. 
 
Also competing for UH was sophomore Ryan Kuroiwa, who shot 81 to finish with a 226 total and a tie for 77th place. Kuroiwa's up-and-down final round featured three birdies, three bogeys and four double bogeys. Junior Thomas Yamashita finished in a tie for 100th after shooting a third round 80 on Tuesday to give him a 234 overall.
 
The Warriors will next travel to Tucson, Ariz. to compete in the National Invitation Tournament on March 16-17 hosted by Arizona.
