KAHUKU, Oahu – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team tied for 11th at the 37th John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Friday in blustery and rainy conditions at the Turtle Bay Resort's Arnold Palmer Course.

California captured its third straight Burns title by 27 strokes with a three-day total of 14-under 850. The Golden Bears took to the top three spots in the individual leaderboard as Joel Stalter ran away with medalist honors with a 12-under 204 total. He posted a 5-under 67 on Friday, matching his first round total.

Cal's Max Homa finished runner-up for the second straight year, posting a 4-under 212 while Michael Weaver (214) made it a 1-2-3 Golden Bear finish.

UH's top finisher was sophomore Ryan Kuroiwa, who represented the “B” team. The 'Aiea, O'ahu native shot a final round 1-under 71 to finish 5-over 221 and a tie for ninth place. Kuroiwa was steady throughout his round, which included two birdies and one bogey, and finished the final 16 holes at 2-under par.

Competing for the “A” team, senior Cory Oride completed his final Burns Intercollegiate with a 2-over 74 for an 8-over 224 total and tie for 20th place. The Lihu'e, Kaua'i native was even par – with two birdies and two bogeys – through his first 16 holes before bogeying the final two holes.

The day started with a flash flood warning for the island of O'ahu, however, rain did not hit the Turtle Bay Resort until about an hour into the round, which delayed play for nearly 15 minutes.
