MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Hawai'i Warrior football team escaped with a hard-earned 16-14 road win over Idaho Saturday afternoon at the Kibbie Dome. Kenton Chun nailed a 35-yard field goal with just 32 seconds left to lift the Warriors to a crucial road conference victory.

Chun's field goal capped a dramatic final three minutes in which UH came back from the depths of defeat. Trailing 14-13 late in the fourth quarter, Aaron' Brown's clutch interception gave UH the ball back for one final possession. Quarterback Bryant Moniz then engineered a 60-yard drive to set-up the game-winning kick. The Vandals did have one final opportunity to win in the final moments but Trey Farquhar's 53-yard field goal attempt as time expired was wide left.

The Warriors (5-3, 3-1 WAC) kept their Western Athletic Conference hope title hopes alive with the victory. UH won despite scoring a season-low 16 points, the Warrior's lowest point total in a win since a 13-10 victory at San Jose State in 2003.

The UH defense picked up the slack by holding the Vandals (1-7, 0-4 WAC) to just 234 total yards. UH also stopped Idaho on two key fourth-down plays and forced two turnovers, including Brown's fourth-quarter interception.  Brown also finished with a team-high nine tackles.

Bryant Moniz, meanwhile, finished with 338 yards passing and one touchdown, while Royce Pollard had 151 yards receiving on a career-high 10 receptions.

Idaho got on the board first seven minutes into the game when Prince McCarthy recovered his own fumble in the end zone after a 4-yard gain. UH shook off its slow start to run off 13 unanswered points in the second quarter. Bryant Moniz' 2-yad toss to Billy Ray Stutzmann early in the second quarter tied the game and the Warriors added a pair of field goals, including a career-long 47-yard kick by Tyler Hadden to give UH a 13-7 lead at the break. UH doubled up Idaho in yardage (214-102) in the first half.

A pivotal play occurred in the third quarter when UH was driving in Idaho territory to extend its lead. However,  Tracy Carter scooped up a UH fumble and returned it 70 yards to give the Vandals a 14-13 lead. That lead held until the final tense moments of the game when UH rallied to defeat the Vandals for the seventh time in eight WAC meetings.

The Warriors now return home to face Utah State on Saturday, Nov. 5. Kickoff is 6:05 p.m. at Aloha Stadium.
