Warrior Golf Falls To Eighth After Turtle Bay Round 2

Round 2 Results

KAHUKU, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team dropped five places during Tuesday's second round of the 2009 Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational on the North Shore of O'ahu. For the second straight day, the men played on the Arnold Palmer course while the women's tourney is at the George Fazio course.
 
After shooting an even-par 288 during Monday's opening round, the Warriors shot 17-over 305 and are now in eighth place among the 12-team field. San Diego State, ranked 29th nationally, is running away from the field with a 12-stroke lead over Santa Clara after posting rounds of 278 and 286.
 
Overnight rain and downpours in the morning threatened the start of play but the players managed to avoid any delay and five players posted sub-par rounds despite the conditions.
 
Three of UH's five players posted higher scores than Monday including sophomore Jared Sawada and freshman Cory Oride, both of whom shot 2-under 70 on Monday. Oride fired a 3-over 75 and is 1-over for the tournament, good for a tie for 11th, while Sawada shot a 12-over 84 and is 10-over heading into Wednesday's final round.
 
After firing an even-par 72 on Monday, sophomore #T.J. Kua# shot 3-over 73 and is currently tied for 16th place. Kamden Brakel fired a 3-over 75 and is 7-over for the tourney. Freshman Alex Chu improved three strokes from Monday's opening round with an 8-over 80 and has a 36-hole score of 163.
 
Competing as individuals are Henry Park (79-82) and Pono Calip (81-86).
 
San Diego State's Andrew Cooley holds a one-stroke lead over Santa Clara's Rick Lamb after firing the day's low round of 68. His two round score of 4-under 138 is one stroke better than Lamb, who shot a second round 69, and two strokes better than teammate Alex Kang. First round leader Johan Carlsson of San Diego State shot a 3-over 75 and is tied for fourth place.
 
Behind SDSU (564) and Santa Clara (576) in the team standings are Illinois (579), Long Beach Stae (579), New Mexico State (590), Georgia State (591), British Columbia (592), Hawai'i (593), Hawai'i Pacific (600), Air Force (612), Brigham Young (620), and Osaka Gakuin (630).
 
Wednesday's final round is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. HT at the George Fazio course.
