LONG BEACH, Calif. - The fourth-ranked University of Hawai`i
women's water polo team fell to No. 13 Long Beach State, 10-9, in
an Mountian Sports Federation match Friday at the 49er Pool. UH
dropped to 15-7 overall and 7-4 in the MPSF.

Turnbull led the Rainbow Wahine with four goals.
Freshman Carmen Eggens also found the net twice.

Majuri, Kelly Mason, and Lisa van
Raalte scored one goal apiece.
Freshman goalie Sara Gralitzer finished the match with four
saves.
The 49ers (12-13, 4-6 MPSF) took an early lead after Dayna
Wawrynski scored two consecutive goals in the first. UH was
able to tie the match after Eggens and Turnbull both found the
net on six-on-five advantages.
Turnbull and Majuri scored twice in the second giving Hawai`i a
4-3 lead, but a late goal by LBSU's Becky Gentner left the match
tied 4-4 at the half.
The Rainbow Wahine scored three goals to open the third period
giving Hawai`i a 7-4 lead. But the 49ers answered back with
two goals on six-on-five advantages, leaving them one point
behind.
LBSU dominated the fourth, opening with three consecutive
goals, giving the 49ers a two-point lead. Mason's goal with 3:20
left pulled the Rainbow Wahine within one goal, but Wawrynski's
fourth goal of the match made it 10-8. van Raalte scored the
final goal of the match and narrowed the score 10-9, but it
wasn't enough to give the Rainbow Wahine a victory.
The Rainbow Wahine continue on the road with an MPSF match
against No. 3 USC on Saturday, April 12 at 6:00 p.m. PDT (3:00
p.m. HT) at the McDonald's Swim Stadium.
