NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - Fifth-ranked California defeated No. 4 Hawai`i, 11-9, in overtime Saturday in the quarterfinals of the UC Irvine Women's Water Polo Invitational at Corona del Mar High School. The Rainbow Wahine drop to the consolation bracket where they will face Loyola Marymount on Sunday.

Freshman Carmen Eggens led UH with four goals. The Rainbow Wahine led 4-3 after the first but played catch up the rest of the way. The Golden Bears led 6-5 at the half and 9-7 entering the fourth period.

The Rainbow Wahine (7-3), who defeated Cal two weeks ago, scored two goals in the fourth period to send the match into overtime. But in the extra periods, Grace Reynolds and Paige Lorenz scored for Cal to give the Golden Bears a 11-9 victory.

California advances to the semifinals. The UH-Loyola Marymount match begins at 8:00 a.m. PST/6:00 a.m. HST at Anteater Aquatics Complex.
