Warriors, Irish Meet In Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl

HONOLULU - For the fifth time in seven years, the University of Hawai'i Warrior football team will participate in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl. The Warriors (7-6) will face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (6-6) on Wednesday, Dec. 24 at Aloha Stadium. Kickoff is 3:00 p.m. HT and the game will be televised on ESPN.

The Warriors have previously appeared in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl in 2002, '03, '04, and '06 with wins in each of the past three participating years. Overall, Hawai'i will make its sixth bowl appearance in the last seven years and seventh in the last 10 years. UH owns a 5-3 all-time bowl record.

UH earned the bowl bid after winning its seventh game of the season against Washington State on Nov. 29. Four of UH's six losses this season have come against bowl-bound teams, including top-ranked and SEC champion Florida, who will play in the BCS National Championship game, and Big East champion and Orange Bowl-bound Cincinnati.

In all, the Warriors played seven bowl-bound teams in 2008 and boasts a 3-4 record against those teams.

The Fighting Irish will be making their second bowl appearance in the 50th state after losing 27-20 to SMU in the 1984 Aloha Bowl.

Overall, the Irish will be making their 29th bowl appearance and fourth in the past five seasons.

Hawai'i and Notre Dame have met twice previously with the Irish victorious each time. In 1991, Notre Dame held off UH, 48-42, and in 1997 kicked a late field goal for a 23-22 victory.
