HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (19-8) finished the series sweep over Wisconsin-Milwaukee (0-13) with a 9-2 victory in front of a crowd of 2,181 at the Les Murakami Stadium Sunday.
Matthew Daly (2-1) got the win, allowing just one hit in 5.0 innings with seven strikeouts. Dan Luczak (0-4) took the loss for the Panthers.
Evan Zimny tied the school record with three doubles in a 3-for-5 game with three runs scored. Jonathan Hee went 3-for-5 with three RBI while Landon Hernandez was 3-for-4 with two RBI, a double and a run. Matthew Roquemore also had a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
For the first time in the series, Hawai`i opened up the scoring as Hernandez singled in Zimny in the second inning. UH added their next run in the fifth as Brandon Haislet drove in a run, making it 2-0.
The Panthers answered in the top of the sixth with a run to cut their deficit back to one. But the Rainbows came right back with a three-run bottom of the sixth, as Roquemore singled in a run before Hee hit a two-run single, making it 5-1.
UWM again added a run in the top of the seventh before the 'Bows dropped a four-run inning in the bottom of the inning, putting the game away, 9-2.
The Rainbows will now start Western Athletic Conference play next week, hosting Nevada from March 23-25.
