PALO ALTO, Calif. - The second ranked UCLA Bruins handed the fifth-ranked Hawai`i women's water polo team a 12-4 setback tonight in the nightcap of the first day of the Stanford Invitational at The Avery Aquatic Center.
Hawai`i (2-2) jumped out on the Bruins in the first quarter, 3-2, with Anna Sieprath, Kelly Mason and Lisa van Raalte all scoring goals.
However, the Bruins came roaring back shutting out the Rainbow Wahine over the next two quarter and took command of the game. UCLA scored four times in the second and added three more in the third to lead 9-3 heading into the final quarter.
UH managed a lone goal in the fourth from Ryan Hanson-Swaner, but UCLA added three more tallies to win, 12-4.
The Rainbow Wahine finish pool play at 9:30 a.m. PST Sunday against No. 4 California before heading into the championship round in the afternoon.
