No. 5 Cal Trims No. 4 Hawai`i, 5-4

IRVINE, Calif. - No. 4 Hawai`i dropped a 5-4 decision in overtime this evening to No. 5 California in the first day of the UC Irvine Invitational at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.

The Rainbow Wahine fall to 8-5 overall on the year and 1-1 in the tournament.

UH jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first quarter on goals by Angela Turnbull and Kelly Mason. Cal knotted it up before the half on Melissa Wheeler's goal. UH led after three on Turnbull's second goal of the match. Hawai`i went up by two when Turnbull turned in a hat-trick at the 6:25 mark in the fourth quarter. However, the Bears clawed back to tie it with two unanswered goals to send it to overtime.

In the first three-minute overtime, Cal's Vanessa Lindsey broke the deadlock and gave the Bears the 5-4 victory as both teams played to a scoreless second three-minute overtime period.
