LOS ANGELES, Calif. - No. 4 Hawai`i was handed a 16-7 setback at No. 1 UCLA in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on a rainy Thursday afternoon at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center on the Bruins' campus.
In the first period, the Bruins jumped out to a quick two-goal lead in the first 1:15 of the game on goals by Molly Cahill and Jillian Kraus. Hawai`i evened the score at 2-2, but then the Bruins pulled away. Cahill and Kraus scored their second goals of the quarter and Katie Rulon put in
two more to extend the lead to 6-2. Rulon and Kraus each scored two more goals in the second quarter to help the Bruins lead at halftime 11-3.
The teams traded goals in the second half, and the final score was 16-7. The Rainbow Wahine were led by Kristy Bagnall and Lisa van Raalte who each tallied two goals.
Emily Feher made six saves in the victory while UH goalie Meike De Nooy made eight stops. Seven different players scored for the Bruins, who improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in MPSF play. Hawai`i dropped to 6-4 overall and 4-2 in MPSF play.
UH continues its roadtrip with another MPSF match Friday at UC Irvine. Then the Rainbow Wahine will participate in the Anteater Invitational Feb. 24-25.
