Wilder Top UH Finisher At Santa Clara Invite

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - In its final competition before the Western Athletic Conference Championships, the University of Hawai'i women's cross country team competed in the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational, Saturday, at Baylands Regional Park. The Rainbow Wahine competed along with some 20 other collegiate programs and nearly 200 athletes.

UH finished 14th in the invitational section as senior Chantelle Wilder posted yet another strong showing. The London, Ontario native placed 12th overall and completed the 5K course in 17:45, just two seconds off of her personal best. In six meets this season, she has finished no lower than 12th and has four individual titles.

Among the other Rainbow Wahine athletes scoring team points were Jessi Locke (19:54, 115th), Briana Goodnight (20:14, 121st), Samantha Lotnick (20:30, 125th), and Mallory Kurosumi (20:41, 127th). Also competing was Anna Schleuter (22:03, 133rd).

As a team, UH scored 407 points. San Francisco won the invitational section with a score of 76 points followed by Long Beach State (100), and host Santa Clara (125). Loyola Marymount's Laura Mickelson captured top individual honors.

The Rainbow Wahine will take the next week off before the WAC Championships, Oct. 27, at the American West Heritage Center in Logan, Utah.
