HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision to fourth-ranked Baylor, Saturday, at the UH Tennis Complex. Due to inclement weather, two singles matches were not completed.
The Rainbow Warriors jumped off to a slow start by dropping all three doubles matches to lose the doubles point.
UH gave a valiant effort in singles play. Sophomore Sascha Heinemann lost to fourth-ranked Lars Poerschke, 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 position. At No. 2, freshman Andreas Weber was two points away from victory against Denes Lukacs. Weber was leading 6-3, 5-3 and 30-0. Senior Chad Faulk was up a set, 7-6, 2-5, against Matija Zgaga at the No. 4 court. Sophomore Jeff Fitch dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to nationally ranked Matt Brown, at the No. 5 position.
In 2006, the Bears reached the semifinals of the NCAA Championships.
The Rainbow Warriors will have a scrimmage against Oregon, Sunday, at 1:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex. Hawai'i's next dual match will be on February 3, against Gustavus Adolphus at the UH Tennis Complex.
