Rainbow Warriors Move On At WAC Championship

BOISE, Idaho - The Hawai`i men's tennis team advanced to the Western Athletic Conference Championship semifinals, after defeating sixth-seeded Nevada, 4-1, Friday morning, at the Boise Racquet & Swim Club. The victory was UH's first-ever in the quarterfinal round.

The Rainbow Warriors (10-5), seeded third, rallied from a 1-0 deficit after the Wolf Pack captured the doubles point. Despite forfeiting the No. 3 doubles court, Nevada pulled off 8-6 and 8-5 victories at courts one and two to win the point.

In singles play, the Wolf Pack's forfeit at the No. 6 position evened the score. The 'Bows then secured victories at the Nos. 3, 4, and 5 courts. Senior Ryan Sceats picked up his 21st singles win with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Eldar Dzhafarov at court three. Junior Chad Faulk wasted little time with Rafal Stupka, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 and senior Jarrod Diepraam put away Max Volger, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5.

The Rainbow Warriors will now face second-seeded Fresno State, Saturday, at 9:00 a.m. MDT at the Appleton Tennis Center. The Bulldogs are ranked 47th nationally, while UH maintains a No. 72 ranking. Hawai`i is 1-7 all-time against Fresno State.
