LAIE, Oahu - The Hawai'i women's cross country team wrapped up local competition with a fourth place finish at the BYU-Hawai'i Invitational, Saturday, near the BYUH campus. The Rainbow Wahine completed the third of the three local meets on their schedule and will next travel to Riverside, Calif., for their first mainland event.
Junior Sheena Thain once again was the top UH runner, completing the 5K course in 20:11 to place ninth. Junior Sharlene Carillo was the next UH finisher at 11th overall (20:22) followed by junior Michel Wilson (20:44, 15th), junior Ashley Monfort (22:25, 23rd), and newcomer Annett Wichman (22:37, 25th).
Thain was UH's top runner at both the season-opening Chaminade Invite and last week's UH-hosted Big Wave Invite. At the Chaminade Invite - run at the same course as Saturday's meet - Thain finished at 20:06.
Hawai'i Pacific won the women's race with four runners in the top six. The host Seasiders finished second (49) followed by UH-Hilo (76), Hawai'i (80), and Chaminade (112). HPU's Louise Brasen took the individual title with a time of 18:42, edging teammate Inga Burger (18:56).
UH next competes in the UC Riverside Invitational, Oct. 1.
