Box Score Box Score

HONOLULU - The No. 6 University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team (5-5) fell to the No. 2 Washington Huskies (9-0) 28-30, 20-30, 28-30 in front of a crowd of 8,322 at the Stan Sheriff Center Saturday.

Victoria Prince hit .591 with 13 kills and three blocks. Tara Hittle ended up with nine kills, 13 digs and three blocks. Kanoe Kamana`o had 39 assists, 11 digs and six blocks.

Hawai`i came out with revenge for the previous night's sweep, taking a 13-8 lead on the strength of a 5-0 run early on. UH got their lead up to 17-11 before the Huskies made their run, scoring 11 of the next 14 points, to take a 22-20 advantage. UW kept distance from the Rainbow Wahine before consecutive kills by Susie Boogaard and Hittle cut the deficit back to 27-26, forcing a timeout. Washington responded, scoring the next two points to get to game point at 29-26. Hawai`i fought it off with two-straight blocks before UW's Sanja Tomasevic put away a kill to win the game 30-28.

Washington kept the momentum on their side to start the second game, scoring eight-straight points, on Tomasevic's serve, to go up 8-1. Hawai`i made a run to cut it back to 15-11 before Tomasevic served another UW run of five-straight points, making it 20-11. That proved too much for UH to make up as they fell 30-20 in the second game.

Game three was a battle of runs. Hawai`i made the first run, scoring six straight to go up 12-8. UW then responded with four points of their own to tie it at 12. It stayed close for most of the rest of the game with a kill by Prince putting the Rainbow Wahine ahead 27-24. But that sparked Washington's final push as Christal Morrison put up three kills in a 5-0 UW run that got the Huskies to match point at 29-27. Kamana`o and Kari Gregory combined for a block to get UH to 28 before Tomasevic again came up with the game-winning kill, ending the match with a 30-28 game three victory for Washington.

The Rainbow Wahine have a full week coming up, opening conference play vs. Boise State on Thursday, Sept. 22, before hosting Loyola Marymount for two matches on Friday, Sept. 23, and Saturday, Sept. 24. All matches will start at 7 p.m.
