AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Hawai`i coed sailing team slipped a spot to second place following the second day of the ICSA Coed Dinghy Championships at Lake Travis. The defending national champs relinquished its day one lead but are still in the hunt after ringing up a total of 106 points Thursday for a two-day total of 172.
The championships are turning out to be a three-team affair. UH entered the day holding the top spot in the 18-team field and now are 11 points off the pace. The Rainbows held a six-point edge over Hobart/William Smith and a nine-point advantage over Dartmouth. Hobart/William Smith now leads with a total of 161, while Dartmouth stand in third at 178, six points behind UH.
A total of 16 races, eight each in "A" and "B" divisions, were completed. All-Americans Bryan Lake and Jennifer Warnock have a total 69 points, good for second in the "A" division. Matt Stine, Cassandra Harris,Shandy Buckley, Scott DeCurtis and Becky Mabardy are fifth-best in the "B" division with a total of 103 points. 
"It was a wild one today," head coach Andy Johnson said. "The wind was howling and we had a few questionable calls from the judges go against us. I feel good heading into tomorrow. An 11-point deficit isn't too hard to overcome."
The championships conclude Friday with eight total races left.
