Novelle Murray threw 55.70m (182-9) in the hammer throw at the Triton Invitational, Friday, becoming Hawai`i's second multi-event qualifier for the NCAA West Regionals. Murray's heave was a new school record, breaking the old record which she held of 54.05m.
Also competing at the meet, held at Triton Track and Field Stadium, were junior Alexis Fredrick and freshman Meghan Weaver. Fredrick threw a personal best 49.90m (163-8), topping her previous high of 48.35m. Weaver tossed 44.97m.
The three UH athletes will compete on Day 2 of the Triton Invitational on Saturday in both the shot put and discus. They are the only Rainbow Wahine competing this weekend.
Murray joins teammate Kelly Young as the team's only multi-event qualifiers. Earlier this season, Murray qualified in the discus. Young posted qualifying times in the 400m hurdles and 800m run. Also joining them at the Regionals will be Weaver (shot put), Patricia Gauthier (pole vault), and Tasha Monroe (long jump).
