KUNA, Idaho- The University of Hawai`i women's golf team shot 304 in the final round of the 2005 Western Athletic Conference Championships on the Falcon Crest golf course to finish sixth in the conference with a 54-hole total of 937. Sophomore
Dale Gammie, who ended the regular season with four top-ten finishes, including a victory at the Bay Area Classic, was voted first-team All-WAC by the conference's eight head coaches.
Fellow sophomore Sara Odelius was the only Rainbow Wahine to finish the WAC Championships in the top-ten after she shot a two-over 74 in the final round. Odelius finished in a four-way tie for tenth with a 54-hole total of 229. Freshman Xyra Suyetsugu shot a five-over 77 in the third to finish tied for 17th with a three round total of 232. Gammie ended the competition tied for 24th with a 54-hole total of 237. Junior Tara Chappell wrapped-up her season tied for 29th with 241 over three days. Junior Roslyn Folk shot a five-over 77, her best round of the championships, to finish in 35th.
Tulsa shot a tournament low 293 in the final round to move ahead of San Jose State and claim their seventh straight WAC team championship in only nine years of conference membership. The Golden Hurricane's Lee Anne Pace, ranked 22nd in the nation among individual female golfers by the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, began the day tied for seventh, but with the help of a four-under 68 through the final 18 holes, Pace moved ahead of the Spartan's Jenelle Gomez to win the individual WAC title. The NCAA West Regional will take place on May 5-7 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Any word of individual Rainbow Wahine qualifiers will be announced ASAP.
