HONOLULU - Junior
Bryon Weinberg posted the biggest upset of his career in Hawai`i's 6-1 loss to San Diego, Monday afternoon, at the UH Tennis Complex. Weinberg defeated No. 60 Nic Beuque, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) in a super-tiebreaker at the No. 2 court for his team-leading 15th singles victory.
Weinberg, who won just five matches last season, has won five of his last six matches. Other than Weinberg, the Rainbow Warriors (5-10) had little success as the Toreros (9-4) captured all three doubles matches and five of the six singles contests.
In singles play, the Warriors played without junior Ryan Sceats, who sat out the match due to illness. Sceats currently has a nine-match win streak and leads the team with a 10-1 dual match record at the No. 3 court. USD won its five singles matches in straight sets including No. 7 Pierrick Ysern's 6-4, 6-2 victory over Dalibor Ptak at the top singles spot.
The Warriors next hosts Xavier, Wednesday, at the UH Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
