After falling behind 3-0 in the first seven innings, the Rainbows made a late push in the eighth and ninth. Avila drove in Omura on his double in the eighth before Inouye scored on a wild pitch to put the 'Bows within one run. With Avila on third and just one out, Esteban Lopez hit a fly ball to left field, hoping for the sacrifice. But Avila was called out on a close play at the plate, keeping it at 3-2.
Hawai`i had another chance in the ninth as Omura hit a big single to right, to set up runners on the corners with two outs and Inouye at the plate. Inouye then hit a long fly ball to right that ended up just short of the wall, ending UH's comback bid.
The 'Bows will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 17, as they host the University of Pacific for another four-game series. Thursday's game will start at 6:35 p.m. at the Les Murakami Stadium.
