HONOLULU – Rainbow Wahine
Tinja Anderson-Mitterling is in sixth place after the first day of the ICSA/Vanguard Women’s Singlehanded Nationals hosted by the University of Hawaii at Keehi Lagoon. The sophomore sailor is 53 points behind the pace with more than half the races completed.
Due to unfavorable wind forecasts for the weekend a total of 10 races were finished by the end of day one with just six races left in the competion. Anderson-Mitterling, part of a 16-sailor field, started strong in her home waters with a second-place finish in the first race of the day. However, it would be her best finish of the day as the top three-competitors have distanced themselves from the rest of the field. Paige Railey of South Florida has built a double-digit advantage with 20 points, 16 points ahead Molly Carapiet and Jane Macky of Yale. Andrew Campbell of Georgetown leads the men’s event with 34 points.
Racing is scheduled to continue tomorrow at 10 am.
