HONOLULU - University of Hawai`i freshman
Sascha Heinemann was eliminated from the USTA's Honolulu Futures tournament Main Draw by top-seeded Wayne Odesnik, 6-3, 6-0, in a Round of 16 match, Thursday, at the UH Tennis Complex.
Heinemann, who won a wild card tournament for entry into the Main Draw, was competitive in the first set breaking Odesnik twice through the first five games. But the world's No. 290th player rallied back and won the final two games to take the set.
Between sets Heinemann was awarded a medical timeout for a leg injury but managed to continue. Odesnik didn't let up and broke Heinemann three times in a 6-0 second set victory.
Overall, the Rainbow Warriors performed well as two singles players and one doubles team competed in the Main Draw of the professional circuit tournament.
The tournament continues throughout the week at the UH Tennis Complex with the finals scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 20. UH will next face nationally ranked Stanford, Tuesday, in a dual match at the Hilton Waikoloa Resort.
