Ryan Sceats and
Jarrod Diepraam stunned the tournament's third-seeded team to advance to the doubles Main Draw quarterfinals of the Wilson/ITA North Western Region Championships, Sunday. Sceats and Diepraam were the final members of the Hawai`i men's tennis team competing in either the singles or doubles Main Draw.
Sceats and Diepraam upset Marcus Schiller and Arron Spencer of Oregon, 8-6, in the Round of 16. However later in the day, the duo dropped their quarterfinal match to Portland's Scott Kennel and James Redpath, 8-6.
"It was a solid performance by Ryan and Jarrod to knock off the third-seeded team," head coach John Nelson said. "They've been playing really well together in this tournament and for them to pull off that victory, it was a real solid win for them."
Sceats, a Perth, Australia native, had an outstanding performance in the tournament advancing to the singles Main Draw Round of 32 on Saturday.
The remaining Rainbow Warriors competed in a singles consolation draw. The tournament continues till Tuesday.
