Warriors Suffer Third Straight Loss to Ranked Foe

HONOLULU - The Hawai'i men's tennis team concluded its three-match homestand with a 7-0 loss to No. 49 Oregon, Friday afternoon, at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Warriors (1-4) fell to three ranked teams during the past week.

"Today in doubles, we came out and competed and played much better," head coach John Nelson said. "We played smarter under pressure and we were in a lot of the singles matches. Our goal is to be nationally ranked like these guys and we'll use this experience to try to get there."

The Rainbow Warriors dropped the singles point but not without a fight. Bryon Weinberg and Chad Faulk extended its match at the No. 2 court into overtime with Oregon's Sven Swinnen and Arron Spencer before falling 9-7. Dalibor Ptak and Derrick Lajola dropped a close 8-6 decision to Thomas Bieri and Markus Schiller at No. 1.

In singles play, Weinberg blanked Manuel Kost, 6-0, in the first set of their match at the No. 2 court. Kost rallied and won in three, winning the final two sets, 6-2, 6-1. UO's Chad Wilson outlasted Faulk, 7-5, 7-6 (1), at No. 3.

Earlier in the week, UH dropped 7-0 decisions to No. 26 Arizona and No. 41 Florida State. The Rainbow Warriors return to the court, Feb. 4, when they host Indiana-Purdue, Fort Wayne at the UH Tennis Complex.
