ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--The Rainbow Wahine wrapped-up the 2004 Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational by shooting a 315 in the third round, giving them a three round total of 933. Hawai'i dropped two spots in the final round to finish their first tournament of the season in 14th place.
Sophomore golfer Sara Odelius carried her consistent play into the third round as she notched her first top-ten finish of the season. The Swedish sophomore shot a one-over-74 through the final 18 holes to land her in a tie for seventh place. Last season Odelius had six top-ten finishes in the 11 tournaments she competed in. Freshman Xyra Suyetsugu, who was tied for 19th entering the third day, dropped into a tie for 44th after she posted a six-over-80 in the final round. Other Rainbow Wahine on the links were sophomore Dale Gammie (14-over-par, T-54), junior Kari Sur (34-over-par, 92) and sophomore Megan Stoddart (35-over-par, 93).
Georgia captured the team title after posting a four-under 288 in round three to finish with a team score of 874, two strokes under par. New Mexico, who is the hosting school, finished their invitational in second place. The Lady Bulldog's Kelly Froelich shot a five-under 68 in the final round to regain the lead from Oklahoma State's Karin Sjodin and claim the individual championship.
The Rainbow Wahine will be competing again Oct. 4-6 at the New Mexico State Intercollegiate.
