HAWAI`I COED SAILING WINS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Rainbows Lock Up Second Sailing National Championship Overall and First Coed Title

CASCADE LOCKS, Ore. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow sailing team won the ICSA North American Coed Dinghy Championships Friday.

The Rainbows claimed their first-ever title in the coed dinghy division, with their only other national title coming in 2001, in the women's division. UH climbed the ladder in the past three years, finishing third in the coed dinghy championships in 2002 and second in 2003, until they broke through for the 2004 title.

UH finished with 181 points, defeating second-place Georgetown by 29 points. Hobart/William Smith (222) finished third with Southern California (225) and Dartmouth (235) rounding out the top five.

Hawai`i's A-division team of Bryan Lake and Jennifer Warnock won the division with a score of 88 points, four better than second-place Georgetown, who had 92. UH's B-division team of Joey Pasquali, Matt Stine, Carly Allen, Cassandra Harris and Jeffrey Boyd, finished in second with a score of 93, 8 points behind Hobart/William Smith.

The team will return to Honolulu tomorrow at 11:55 a.m., on Hawaiian Flight 25 out of Portland, Ore. Head Coach Andy Johnson and Assistant Coach Jesse Andrews will come in on that flight, along with All-American Bryan Lake.
