CASCADE LOCKS, Ore. - The University of Hawai`i coed sailing team advanced to the qualifying round of the ICSA North American Team Race Championships Sunday after defeating Washington in a sail-off (1,2,5).
The Rainbows ended their races in group B with a 3-3 record, tied for fourth with Washington, forcing the sail-off. In group races, UH defeated Michigan (1,2,6), Washington (1,2,3) and Eckerd (1,2,3), while falling to Georgetown (3,4,6), Dartmouth (3,4,5) and Brown (3,4,6).
Hawai`i, Georgetown, Dartmouth and Brown advance out of group B, while Harvard, St. Mary's (Md), Southern California and Hobart/William Smith made it out of group A.
The team race qualifying round will race on Monday, May 31, at the conclusion of which, a national champion will be crowned.
