Hawai`i Sailors Complete PCIYRA Sweep, Taking First in Coed Dinghy

STANFORD, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i coed sailing team completed the school's second PCIYRA sweep, taking the PCIYRA Coed Dinghy title Sunday, after winning the women's title in Honolulu last week and the team race title at Stanford on Friday.

Hawai`i defeated second-place Southern California by 13 points. Stanford, UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara rounded out the top five. UH and USC now qualify for the ICSA Coed Dinghy North American Championships, held in Cascade Locks, Ore., on June 2-4.

"I'm extremely proud of our group," head coach Andy Johnson said. "It's only the second time we pulled off the PCIYRA sweep. I think this gives us a good chance of bringing home a national title in one of the three, women's, team or coed."

The team of Bryan Lake and Jennifer Warnock tied for first in the A-division with Southern California, while Joey Pasquali, Matthew Stine, Eric Oppen, Carly Allen, Cassandra Harris and Jeffrey Boyd combined for a second-place finish in the B-division.

The three sailing teams will now get ready for the women's, team race and coed dinghy national championships, running from May 30-June 4 in Cascade Lakes, Ore.
